A Texas Wonderland?

We had a Texas wonderland-- if you want to call it that... haha. We never get snow-- just ice. Her are a few pics of the yard with the ice. It was no fun.... stuck inside-- nothing to play in outside. Just bitter cold and slick! We were out of school on Wednesday. That was nice-- an extra day to get some things done. We all enjoyed sleeping in for sure!

Kadyn's Awards

The second grade had their award ceremonies for the first semester on Tuesday. I am so fortunate that Kadyn can go to my school. I am so fortunate to work in a building where people allow me to have moments where I can just be mommy! Each teacher got up and told the awards each student in their class received. Kadyn got the most awards they could possibly get...
A Honor Roll all 3 six weeks
Perfect Attendance all 3 six weeks
Good Citizen all 3 six weeks.
Here are a few pictures of this part of the awards.

After each teacher had given out all of the awards, they recognized 3 students who got what is called " The Shark Pin." This is an honor. Our school mascot is the shark. The shark pin goes to a student who is being recognized for doing something outstanding. Kadyn got one of the 3 Shark Pins. Mrs. Allen, her teacher, said that Kadyn is very bright. She can always see the wheels turning in her head. She is very intuitive and wanting to know more about the things they are learning about. She loves to read and is very kind.

This award was a wonderful surprise! We knew about the other awards since we had gotten report cards each six weeks. What joy it brought to my heart to see my girl being recognized!! Here are some pictures of Mrs. Allen talking about Kadyn. I wish I had known it was her. I would have gotten her "speech" on tape!

Here she is getting the shark pin put on and then the happy girl wearing her shark pin.

We are so very proud of Kadyn. She loves school and wants to do her best!

I so love this boy!!!

Dylan

I spent some time looking back through the blog-- I can't believe I have been doing this for about 2 years!! I also noticed that there are times that Kadyn has more "air time" than Dylan. I know that right now she is already involved in more due to her age and that this will change with time. Still, I love my boy. He has such a tender heart. He loves to get hugs, he gets so excited about the most innocent things. He LOVES superheroes right now. He also loves to color or draw. I love when I can watch him- without him knowing. He is at such a fun age. His imagination is amazing. Here are some pictures I caught of him doing sidewalk chalk paint on the back porch. He had no idea I was watching until toward the end. He asked me if I liked his masterpiece-- to me-- it was priceless!

A Little Bit of This and A Little Bit of That

The week after Christmas, my cousin Kristan came to visit. She is a student at UAH and from what I can tell is loving it. We had a great time with her here! We didn't end up taking many pictures--:o( Here are a few. Dolly LOVED Kristan! The other shows us all one afternoon-- crashed out!

I got the itch to paint again. Kadyn's room became the victim this time. Kadyn picked out a border she really like and we matched colors from there. Once again, the room had to be sanded first. This time, we invested in an electric sander. Here are Kadyn and GrannyLou right after the sanding was finshed!

Dylan wanted to paint SO badly. He came and knocked on the door and said, "I'm in my painter clothes now-- so can I paint?" Here he is painting. You would have thought we bought him his dream toy he was so excited!

Here is the painted room. The border is not up yet. It will be up soon and pictures will follow. Kadyn said the colors are exactly what she wanted--

Here are the kids a week ago having a sleepover. They have asked many times before if they could do this. We have tried a few times and Dylan was just not old enough to handle it. This time, he did much better. He had trouble going to sleep-- but he did-without being up and down more than a few times. He did get up very early the next morning. However, it was worth it. I know the days of my kids wanting to be together and be involved together could very easily be numbered. I treasure these moments.... and now have the proof that they really do love each other!

Goodbye

Today has been a hard day. My first baby, Punkin, was laid to rest. Punkin was 13 years old. She was not just a dog-- she was my first baby. She has loved our family through so much, she has been so sweet to both of my children. Today, Punkin evidently had a stroke. She has been at my parents house for years-- call her a "joint" dog. Mom called me and told me she was not ok. Mom and I went together, we cried and made sure Punkin knew how much she was loved. We were with her until the end.
I know some would say "she is only a dog." However, I will highly disagree. Animals become a part of the family. They can sense when you are not ok, they can curl up with you at just the right moment. They never judge you, they just love you..... no matter! I will miss Punkin..... we all will.
